French MPs have approved a draft law that bans advertising for artificial tanning beds and salons; it also prohibits minors from using potentially dangerous equipment.

A bill on banning adverts for sunbeds and artificial tanning salons has been approved by France's parliament; the law also prohibits people under 18 from using potentially dangerous ultraviolet technology, media reports said.

"Our fellow citizens don't know the risks they're taking… We are worried about the home use of these machines," French Health Minister Marisol Touraine said.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that tanning salon staff should receive proper training related to the potential health risks of UV ray exposure.
