Between 17,000 and 20,000 people reportedly took part in a Sunday anti-austerity rally in the capital of Belgium.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Between 17,000 and 20,000 people took part in a Sunday rally in the capital of Belgium protesting against austerity policies and unfair taxation, RTFB broadcaster reported citing police estimates.

The rally organizers, according to RTFB, claimed that the Brussels march was attended by as many as 120,000 people who came to the capital from all over Belgium.

The protesters were carrying banners reading “Yes, there is an alternative.” Many of demonstrators called for fairer taxes and a better distribution of government spending.

On Monday Brussels is to witness another wave of protests, as, according to RTFB, the local labour unions have called for a series of strikes with 7,000 people expected to attend.
