Russia Ready to Help Search for Germanwings Crash Survivors

Dozens of top-notch Russian rescuers are standing by to fly to France to assist in the search for survivors after Tuesday’s crash of a Germanwings passenger jet.

An Emergency Situations Ministry plane with a “special risk” team of rescue personnel is ready to fly out any time, the ministry press service said Tuesday.

The members of the Lider team are extremely experienced in dealing with this kind of emergency, having vast experience in search-and-rescue operations in the Java Sea where the Malaysian Boeing went down and in the search for Russia’s Sukhoi Superjet in the mountains of Indonesia,” a ministry representative told RIA Novosti news agency.

A Lufthansa Germanwings Airbus A320 crashed on Tuesday in a remote region of the French Alps en route from Spain to Germany. All 142 passengers and eight crew on board are feared dead.
