US Security Support to Ukraine Reaches $120 Million - Nuland

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the United States provided significant security support to Ukraine, almost $120 million worth.

 

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States has provided Ukraine with almost $120 million in military support, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said at the Brussels Forum in Belgium on Friday.

“The United States has provided significant security support to Ukraine throughout this crisis, almost $120 million worth,” Nuland stated.

Washington has not yet made the decision to provide lethal support to the government in Kiev, but “we are getting ready to start training Ukrainian forces in Western Ukraine,” she added.

Nuland explained that the United States has also provided Ukraine military support in counter-fire radar batteries, night scopes, and “the kinds of things that will allow [the military] to be more capable.”

As of February 2015, the United States had provided more than $355 million in assistance toward Ukrainian security, economic stability and reform agenda, according to the White House. In early March, US Secretary of State John Kerry announced an additional $75 million in non-lethal military aid.

The Brussels Forum is an annual high-level meeting of the most influential North American and European political, corporate and intellectual leaders to address pressing challenges currently facing both sides of the Atlantic, according to Forum’s website.
