MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A military helicopter crashed near the Serbian capital of Belgrade killing all seven people on board, including a baby, the Serbian Ministry of Defense announced Saturday.
"After carrying out an investigation of the site, authorities said that, unfortunately, there were no survivors," the ministry said in a statement.
The Mi-17 transport helicopter crashed late Friday near Nikola Tesla Airport 20 kilometers (12.8 miles) west of Belgrade. According to the ministry, it was deployed as part of a search and rescue operation to transport a newborn to a clinic in the capital of the southeast European nation.
Local media reports said earlier in the day that four crew members, two doctors and the newborn from the southern town of Novi Pazar were on board.
Thick fog is believed to have caused the deadly accident.
