On Thursday, the European Parliament at its plenary session in Strasbourg adopted a resolution, calling for an independent international probe into the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.
"By such resolution the EU Parliament not only devalues its importance, but also causes direct harm to attempts to return the situation in Europe to normal. It is easy to guess, who benefits from this," Lukashevich was quoted as saying in a statement on Foreign Ministry’s website.
Nemtsov, who served as Russia's deputy prime minister in late 1990's, was fatally shot late in the evening of February 27 in central Moscow.
Following the politician’s assassination, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Interior Ministry, the Investigative Committee, and the Federal Security Service to establish a joint investigation team. Subsequently, five suspects in the case have been arrested. The investigation of the crime is currently underway.
