The Norwegian pilot strike continues threatening to affect more than 20,000 passengers of the budget carrier on the weekend.
On the eighth day of the strike the Norwegian airliner has once again cancelled its domestic flights in Norway and Sweden as well as travels to other European destinations. Although the European carrier offered job guarantees to 700 of its pilots, the unions demanded that their collective agreement should be concluded with the parent company, not with its Norwegian Air Norway (NAN) affiliate.
On March 5, the unions denied an offer made by the Norwegian to divide NAN into three subsidiaries and transfer its pilots to Sweden, Norway and Denmark, blasting the move as an attempt to sow discord among the pilots. The conflict goes on, as the sides still cannot find the common ground.
The strike began on February 28, since then more than 700 pilots in Norway and Denmark stopped working. The strike has already resulted in over 800 temporary redundancies of the Norwegian's cabin staff.
