Estonia to Spend 40 Million Euro Hosting Additional NATO Forces

Estonia’s Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas announced that the country is ready to host additional NATO forces, adopting a special investment program for this purpose.

Estonian authorities approved a special investment program designed to create suitable conditions for the placement of additional NATO allied forces in the country.

Potential investments amount to €40 million, the governmental press service reported.

Earlier, Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas said that Estonia is ready to host additional NATO forces on its territory. Estonian Tapa military base is currently hosting a US motorized infantry company equipped with armored personnel carriers Stryker and infantry fighting vehicles Bradley.

According to the press service statement, the program includes four stages and is expected to be implemented over the course of four years.

The funding will be spent on the construction of barracks at Tapa military base with special hangars for military equipment, development of a central polygon for defense forces to enable all required exercises with combat vehicles and tanks, construction of warehouses for military equipment across the country as well as building of headquarters for a NATO Rapid Deployment Forces’ sub-unit in Tallinn.
