Bernard Petit, head of Paris’ judicial police, was suspended after the prosecutor’s office of the French capital announced that it was charging Petit with leaking information on an ongoing investigation to Christian Prouteau, the founder of counterterrorism force GIGN (Intervention Group of the National Gendarmerie).

Petit and his chief of staff were charged with disclosing information relating to an investigation into Christophe Rocancourt, a conman, who was deported to France in 2006 after serving a sentence in a US prison.
