A British delegate from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe challenged Russia’s credentials in the organization over the crisis in Ukraine.

STRASBOURG, January 26 (Sputnik) –  PACE’s British delegate, Robert Walter, said he challenged Russia’s credentials because it was not implementing its obligations in the Ukrainian crisis, saying that Russia is “occupying the territory of another member state,” a Sputinik correspondent reported.

The initiative was welcomed by PACE members.

"Mr. Walter you are challenging the credentials on the Russian delegation on substantial grounds," PACE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland said.

The initiative was supported by over 30 parliamentarians from five states.
