The strike comes after continued refusal by London's 18 bus operators to enter into talks over bus workers' pay. At least nine bus companies will be affected.

LONDON, January 13 (Sputnik) – Up to 27,000 bus workers are expected to take part in a 24-hour strike in London Tuesday, organized by the Unite union amid bus drivers' dissatisfaction with their wages.

"The strike is planned to take place on Tuesday 13 January. This would affect services from around 04:00 [04:00 GMT] on Tuesday 13 January and also night bus services operating on the Tuesday night into Wednesday morning," Transport for London said on its website.

According to the warning statement, at least nine bus companies will be affected by the strike.

Unite has stated that the strike comes after continued refusal by London's 18 bus operators to enter into talks over bus workers' pay.

On Monday, Unite announced that "two thirds of London bus passengers think the capital's bus drivers should be paid the same". Currently, there are over 80 different pay rates covering London's bus drivers, the union explained.

The different pay rates for London bus workers who often drive the same routes has led to pay gaps of over $3 an hour, according to Unite.
