UK Deporting 800 Foreign Criminals Under 'Deport First, Appeal Later' Law

Some 800 convicted criminals of foreign origin are being deported from the United Kingdom as part of "deport first, appeal later" measures, the official UK government's website announced on Tuesday.

MOSCOW, January 6 (Sputnik) – According to the UK government's website, more than 300 foreign criminals have already been kicked out of the UK, with about 500 more awaiting their turn.

"Foreign nationals who abuse our hospitality by committing crime in Britain should be in no doubt of our determination to deport them," Immigration and Security Minister James Brokenshire was quoted as saying on the website.

The deported criminals have the right for an appeal but they have to pursue it from their own country. According to the British government, several criminals have been deported from the UK despite having family members in the country.

Since July 2014, UK Home Office officials have the power to deport foreign nationals convicted of a crime before they can launch an appeal in the UK. The number of available appeals have been cut from 17 to four.

Furthermore, convicted criminals cannot challenge their deportation solely on the grounds that they dispute the UK authorities' decision.

The measures are said to have been put in place in order to prevent criminals from obstructing their deportation by creating legal delays.
