Donetsk Negotiator Hopes for Ukraine Contact Group Meetings Before New Year
An armed conflict has raged in the eastern Ukrainian Donbas region since April, when Kiev launched a military operation against local independence supporters.

Donetsk and Luhansk regions in Donbas established people’s republics that later declared their independence following the February overthrow of then-president Viktor Yanukovych.

Kiev and Donbas militia reached a ceasefire deal during negotiations in Minsk in September, brokered by Russia and the OSCE. However, both sides have subsequently accused each other of violating the truce.
