Call on EC President to Fight Eurosceptics 'Act of Desperation': UKIP
MOSCOW, December 21 (Sputnik) – The United Kingdom Independent Party (UKIP) has adopted new rules restricting its members’ activities in the social networks after a series of racism-related remarks by its members and supporters, The Guardian reported Sunday.

According to the updated constitution of the party accessed by the newspaper, "members shall refrain from using the UKIP logo in terms of their online postings, including avatars," unless they have a written consent from one of the party officials.

The party’s spokesperson told The Guardian the measure was justified, as the UKIP logo was being used on racist accounts in the social networks and “embarrassed” party’s name.

Over the recent months, UKIP has seen a storm of scandals over its members’ offensive remarks on Twitter and Facebook, concerning Islam as well as Chinese, black population and homosexuals.

In May, Nigel Farage, UKIP's leader, vowed to tackle the practice of abusive comments by changing the election strategy and giving way to ethnic minority candidates.

The United Kingdom Independent Party stands for the secession of the country from the European Union, as well as for restricted immigration. The party won the European Parliament election in May, securing 24 seats.
