MOSCOW, December 21 (Sputnik) – Russia’s humanitarian convoy carrying aid to Ukraine's southeastern regions hit by the military conflict, has crossed the Russia-Ukraine border, Russian Emergencies Ministry told RIA Novosti Sunday.

“Over 90 vehicles are heading to Donetsk and about the same number to Luhansk,” the ministry's representative said.

Previously the convoy of 180 trucks split into two groups, with one carrying aid to Donetsk and the other to Luhansk.

According to Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov, Russia plans to send another humanitarian aid convoy to Eastern Ukraine, which will be the country's tenth aid convoy to the war-torn Donetsk and Luhansk regions. - Sputnik International

In total, the Russian convoy will deliver over 1,400 tons of humanitarian aid to the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including food, construction materials, medication and New Year presents.

This is the tenth aid convoy that Russia has sent since mid-August to the conflict-hit Ukrainian regions. Overall, about 12,000 tons of aid have already been delivered to the affected areas.

Donetsk and Luhansk residents are facing a humanitarian crisis as a result of Kiev’s military operation launched against local independence supporters in April.
