DONETSK, December 9 (Sputnik) – Eastern Ukraine's self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) is respecting "warfare silence" in all hotspots as preliminarily agreed with Kiev, a source in the DNR headquarters told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
"There are no confrontations anywhere at the minute according to our information," the source said.
In compliance with a preliminary agreement between Donetsk and Kiev, a "warfare silence" came into observance at 10:00 am Moscow time (07:00 GMT).
The conflict in Ukraine escalated in April, when Kiev launched a military operation against independence supporters in the country’s southeast. On September 5, during a Contact Group meeting in Minsk, a ceasefire deal was reached between the two sides. However, numerous breaches of the ceasefire regime have been reported, with both Kiev forces and independence fighters accusing each other of violating the truce.
Last week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called for the so-called "silence regime" along the line of engagement in the country's southeast starting December 9. Poroshenko said the step was a renewed effort to implement a truce between the parties.
