France's state-run power firm Electricite de France (EDF) complained about several unidentified drone sightings above nuclear power plants in October; Greenpeace denies its involvement.

MOSCOW, October 30 (RIA Novosti) – Unidentified drones flew over seven nuclear plants in October, France’s state-run power firm Electricite de France (EDF) told AFP Wednesday.

The drones did not cause any harm, but their suspicious activity has forced EDF authorities to contact the police.

The first drone sighting was reported on October 5 above a plant in eastern Creys-Malville, EDF said. Further drones were subsequently spotted above other nuclear power sites between October 13 and October 20, AFP said.

Greenpeace, which has snuck into nuclear power plants in the past, was quick to deny their involvement this time around.

“We are very worried about the repeated existence of these suspicious flights,” Greenpeace said, as quoted by Bloomberg. “Neither EDF nor police have provided an explanation.”

Aircrafts are forbidden to fly within a five-kilometer (three-mile) range and 1,000 meters above nuclear power plants, according to French law. Violations are punishable with prison sentences and fines.
