MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) — A student has shot a teacher at a school in the southern Estonian city of Viljandi, local media reported Monday.
“According to initial information, a student shot a teacher. The student has been detained,” spokesperson for the Estonian South district prosecutor's office Kristina Kostina is cited as saying by the Baltic News Service.
“The shooting in Viljandi, which ended in the death of a teacher, came as a shock to all of us. All of Estonia has Viljandi in its thoughts today,” Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas said in a statement published on the government’s official website.
“We do not know yet what caused the incident, but violence is never an acceptable solution. Such things should not happen… My deepest condolences to the loved ones and colleagues of the deceased teacher,” the minister added.
Estonia’s education minister Jevgeni Ossinovski expressed his condolences as well and is on his way to Viljandi.
