The alligator gar (named so for its alligator-like snout) is a predatory fish that can be found in North and Central America. These prehistoric-looking creatures can easily reach 10 feet in length and weigh up to 300 pounds. Despite their terrifying appearance, gars have never been seen attacking people.

Officials in New Orleans, Louisiana, removed a deceased alligator gar from a lagoon in Lafreniere Park, Fox News reported on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson for the park, the fish was discovered after employees smelled a foul odour, which eventually led to them finding the fish.
