Santa Cruz Islands in Pacific Ocean Hit by 5.0-Magnitude Earthquake

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit on Wednesday the Santa Cruz Islands, southeastern part of the Solomon Islands, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The tremors were registered at 01:10 GMT some 230 kilometers (over 140 miles) northwest of the Vanuatu’s town of Sola.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 30 kilometers (over 19 miles).

There are no reports about damages and victims.

The Solomon Islands are located in a seismically active zone known as the Ring of Fire and regularly suffer from powerful earthquakes.
