The train services are suspended in the capital of New Zealand amid other consequences of a major earthquake, local media reported Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — While at least one of the previously closed highways has been cleared out, the train services in Wellington have been suspended, according to the New Zealand Herald.

Prime Minister John Key, speaking to the parliament on Tuesday, reportedly assured the local residents and foreigners currently in New Zealand that the government was working on remedying the effects of the earthquake.

A 6.2-magnitude aftershock hit New Zealand on Sunday following a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that killed two people. The quake has triggered landslides and a small tsunami.
