UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the UN-brokered Paris climate-change agreement crossed the threshold for ratification on Wednesday and will therefore take effect on November 4.

Obama: World Crossed Threshold Today for Paris Climate Deal to Take Effect
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The UN-brokered Paris climate-change agreement crossed the threshold for ratification on Wednesday and will therefore take effect on November 4, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement.

“I am delighted to announce that today the Paris Agreement will cross the second and final threshold needed for entry into force, and will enter into force on 4 November 2016,” Ban stated.

He also urged governments and civil society to fully implement the Paris agreement and to act to mitigate effects of climate change.

Also Wednesday, US President Barack Obama said at a White House news conference that the Paris deal had been ratified by the minimum number of signatories needed for the agreement to enter into force.
