Indian Heat Wave Death Toll Reaches 850

The death toll from the severe heat wave that has struck southeastern states of India has surpassed 850 people, local media reported Tuesday.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, director of India’s Meteorological Department B.P. Yadav told Sputnik that the intense heat waves would continue for a few more days.

The Indian states of Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will remain the most vulnerable, according to Yadav.

The southeastern state of Telangana registered a record temperature on Sunday, reaching 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit).
