On Thursday, US President Trump announced that his country would end its membership in the Paris climate deal signed in 2015, adding that Washington is ready to renegotiate the accord in order for it to be more beneficial to the United States.

"I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris," Trump said.

The US will pursue a "better deal," Trump promised, adding that cutting greenhouse gas emissions is too costly for American companies. Trump said Washington will commence renewed negotiations on a new agreement "if we can, and if we can't, that's fine."

Up until now, the only two countries that didn't formally participate in the Paris Agreement were Syria and Nicaragua.
