Paris has transferred compensation for the non-delivery of its Mistral-class helicopter carriers to a Russian bank "in utmost secrecy."

Earlier it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Francois Hollande made a decision to terminate the contract on the construction and delivery of Mistral-class helicopter carriers to Moscow.

"The president of the Russian Federation and the president of the Republic of France have made a joint decision of termination of the contract for construction and delivery of two Mistral-class amphibious assault ships, signed in June 2011," the Kremlin press service statement said.

The settlement terms of the contract for the delivery of two Mistral-class helicopter carriers to Russia stipulate that France will pay a refund of under 1.2 billion euro ($1.32 billion at current exchange rates), French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Thursday.

And finally, why all the cloak and daggers when transferring the money?
