Jakarta and Moscow hope to increase the bilateral trade turnover to amount almost $3 billion this year, Indonesia’s Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita told Sputnik on Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The minister added that Indonesia is mostly interested in military and technical cooperation with Russia, while Jakarta could offer a range of products to its Russian partners.

"Both of us hope that we can increase [bilateral trade] reaching almost $3 billion, $2.7-2.8 [billion], because we have a target to increase [trade turnover] up to $5 billion for the next few years," Lukita said on the sidelines of a Russian-Indonesian business forum in Moscow.

"From Russia to Indonesia, it is [deliveries] like Sukhoi [aircraft], but from Indonesia it is palm oil, machinery and then food — coffee, tea, tropical fruits," Lukita added.

Lukita told Sputnik that Indonesia mulls purchase of eight Su-35 aircraft.

Jakarta and Moscow have agreed on setting up channels for direct, bilateral investment, the Indonesian minister said.

"Indonesia is ready to invest in Russia. Regarding Russia, it has so far been investing only through a third party. We have reached an understanding and agreed for investment directly to Indonesia," Lukita told reporters on the sidelines of a Russian-Indonesian business forum in Moscow.

Russia and Indonesia have great prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation, the trade minister added. "We have great potential in the spheres of investment, trade, energy, infrastructure and mineral resources," Lukita said.

According to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the bilateral trade between the two countries increased by 14 percent in the first five months of 2017.

In 2016, the Russia-Indonesia bilateral trade grew by 33 percent to reach $2.6 billion.
