WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — American companies are looking to the Turkish market from the long-term perspective, and are optimistic, the executive director of the US-Turkey Business Council at the US Chamber of Commerce said.

"US companies and other multinationals are looking to Turkey from a long perspective. They do see opportunities in a host of sectors," Jennifer Miel stated Thursday.

She noted that US-Turkey Business Council is working with some 68 companies.

"We are talking with these companies every day, talking with other multinationals, US investors. There is optimism for Turkey," Miel continued.

Miel noted that US businesses take into account Turkey’s strong demographics.

"The country is on track to grow about 3 percent for this year and next year," she said.

"After a lot of volatility this year Turkey continues to be resilient, I think resilience is going to be the story for 2016 as we finish the year and also looking ahead to 2017," the director concluded.

At present, approximately 1,400 US companies are doing business in Turkey, and there are about 45,000 foreign companies are based in the country, Mill noted.
