MOSCOW (Sputnik) – UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday she hoped to see more British firms doing business in fast-growing economies like Colombia after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.
"As the UK prepares to leave the EU, I am determined that Britain should become the global champion of free trade, and that means boosting trade with fast-growing economies like Colombia," May said.
The prime minister’s statement was issued on the occasion of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos’s first official visit to the country, which began on Tuesday.
Theresa May said UK’s trade with Colombia was worth over $1.2 billion last year alone. Britain is Colombia’s third largest foreign investor, and she hoped to see even more British investors and companies taking opportunities that are offered by Latin America’s fourth largest economy.
