The first train on a new regular freight route between China and Yekaterinburg arrived in the Urals capital on Wednesday, The Russian Railways website reports.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The new freight route was organized by Transkonteiner (Russian Railways subsidiary) in cooperation with the Russian-Chinese joint venture Swift Multimodal Rus (part of the international group Swift Transport International Logistics Co. Ltd.). Under the cooperation agreement Russian Railways is responsible for cargo transportation on Russian territory and contributes its transport logistics infrastructure and rolling stock.

“On October the first train on a new regular container route between China and the Urals capital arrived in Yekaterinburg. Its fifty  40-ton containers brought to the city telecommunications and construction equipment, electric instruments, consumer goods and other cargoes. Under the plan express freight trains will arrive from China every week (on Wednesdays),” the report reads.

Freight containers from different Chinese cities (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Níngbo, Shanghai, Tianjin and Qingdao) travel via the port of Yingkou to Shenyang where the train is loaded with containers. Cargoes are processed at the container site of Gipsovaya Park at the Yekaterinburg-Tovarny loading platform, the report reads.

“The main advantages of this service is high speed (three times faster than by sea) and guaranteed transit time (tentatively 10 days),” the report reads.

Shipments via the Manchuria-Zabaikalsk checkpoint makes it possible to reduce the delivery two or three times as compared to the operating routes via Far Eastern ports with further transportation of cargoes along the Trans-Siberian Railway,” reported the Sverdlovsk Railways corporate communications department.
