Russia Discusses Economic Cooperation Projects With Japan
ROME (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the 14th session of the Italian-Russian Council for Economic, Industrial and Financial Cooperation opened in Rome, co-chaired by Gentiloni and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

"Our interdependence with Russia has consolidated despite the problems and there is sound groundwork for cooperating in industry, energy, food and the space sector. We must still overcome some critical points in legislation and we’re working at simplifying it. We want to create new joint projects under the logo of ‘Made in Italy’ and ‘Made with Italy,’ by sharing our know-how with Russia’s promising market," Gentiloni said after meeting.

According to Gentiloni, Italy and Russia signed an agreement on tourism and culture during the session. The minister expressed hope that the two countries would be able to increase the bilateral flow of tourists.

Since 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union, including Italy, deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 and over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.

Several Italian regional councils have already approved resolutions, urging to lift anti-Russia sanctions.
