Good Relations Between Russian, Italian Leaders Pose Opportunity for Cooperation

Russia and Italy have a good potential for expanding economic ties, a senior Russian official said.

ROME (Sputnik) — Good relations between the leaders of Russia and Italy create a platform for expansion of economic cooperation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said Wednesday.

"The bilateral political background we have now, despite all the differences and the geopolitical complexity, is very good. The relationships between the two leaders are at a high level, it provides a basis for expanding cooperation in the economic sphere," Dvorkovich said.

He added that despite the persisting disagreements, Russia and Italy will continue work both on bilateral level and under the framework of the United Nations and the UN Security Council.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich and Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni are heading the 14th session of the Russian-Italian Council on Economic, Industrial, Monetary and Financial Cooperation taking place in Rome on Wednesday.
