China, Canada to Prepare Feasibility Study on Free Trade Zone Soon
NEW YORK (Sputnik), Oxana Klokovskaya — Trudeau expressed hope that Chinese investments in Canada would increase, saying they would help boost the economy.

"In meetings with government and business leaders — including women entrepreneurs — we explored ways of connecting even more Canadian businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to the increasingly important Chinese market," Trudeau stated.

Additionally, he welcomed $1.2 billion in commercial agreements between Ottawa and Beijing that he said would generate jobs for middle-class Canadians.

During the two-day visit, Trudeau focused on other areas of bilateral cooperation, such as education, tourism and culture, his office said.

In 2015, bilateral trade between Canada and China increased by 10.1 percent over 2014, and the volume of direct investment between the two countries reached $33 billion by the end of the year. According to the Ottawa government, Canadians of Chinese descent comprise more than 4 percent of Canada’s population.
