ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
"I wish to note that this is, of course, the Brits' internal matter. But it is clear that the results of this referendum are important not just for the Brits and the European Union, but for the global economy as a whole, because oil prices have dropped. The pound and euro exchange rates are under pressure. The volatility of commodity markets and stock markets has significantly increased," Medvedev said.
Moscow will analyze the results of the Brexit referendum and make decisions in the interests of the Russian economy, the prime minister said.
"We are, of course, not happy about it. These are additional risks for the world economy, hence for our economy, which is a part of the world economy. It is very important now to analyze the consequences, take our own internal decisions in the interests of the Russian economy, which will, of course, be done by the government."
