MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The minister added that Russia used to provide Ukraine with discounts on gas because the spot price was lower. He stressed that the current contract price was market and comfortable.
"There were no initiatives either from the European Commission or from the Ukrainian side. Now, I know, there are negotiations and consultations on the part of commercial structures, Naftogaz and Gazprom. Yet again, in the framework of the existing contract," Novak told Rossiya-24 television in an interview.
In October 2015, Naftogaz said that the country was completing the purchase of gas from Gazprom, and the decision to continue to import gas from this supplier would depend on the price. The following month, Ukraine halted purchases of Russian gas, saying the pricing offered by its European partners was much lower than that offered by Moscow.
