France, Germany, US Can Join Make in India Program in 5-10 Years - Ex-Envoy

The Make in India program, which encourages the bilateral sharing of technology with India and subsequent production in the country, could be extended to work with Germany, France and the United States in the next five to ten years, while it is already working with Russia, Phunchok Stobdan, former Indian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) —  Launched in 2014, the Make In India project aims to attract financing to 25 sectors of the country’s economy, with 100 percent direct foreign investment allowed in most areas.

"The only Make in India model is with Russia, the other models are still in the pipeline — with Germany, France and the United States. These are perhaps in the next 5-10 years. Russians are already there in the field, they are producing tanks, aircraft, also the service," Stobdan, who is also an honorary member of the Indian Defenсe Ministry Institute for Defenсe Studies and Analyses, said.

In January 2015, Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar invited Russian defense enterprises to participate in the program.
