Venezuela respects Iran's position regarding the proposals to freeze oil output, Venezuelan Minister of Petroleum and Mines Eulogio del Pino told reporters on Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, Iran's Oil Ministry announced that its head Bijan Zanganeh would skip the meeting of oil producers on freezing global oil outputs in the Qatari capital of Doha, scheduled to be held Sunday.

"I met with the [Iranian] Minister today. They have the attitude that we respect. Iran is a sovereign state, and they have the right to do what they want," del Pino said.

Venezuela ‘Optimistic’ About Doha Talks Outcome

Venezuelan Oil Minister Eulogio Del Pino also said he was optimistic regarding the outcome of the upcoming meeting of the oil-producing states in the Qatari capital, where the possibility to freeze oil output at January levels would be discussed.

"Of course, I am optimistic. That’s why we're here," Del Pino told reporters.

He added that the proposed agreement stipulates freezing oil production until October of this year.

"We had an agreement in February, we worked a lot on it. We have urged other countries to back the agreement. They are free to decide whether or not to support it… We hope that all the countries that come here support the proposal, as they have done it in February," the Venezuelan minister stated.
