TEHRAN (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, energy ministers of several Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members, namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Venezuela, and Russia held talks on the current oil market situation in the Qatari capital of Doha and agreed to freeze oil production at January levels if other countries followed suit. Iran did not take part in the meeting.
"During the meeting tomorrow the oil ministers of Venezuela, Iran and Iraq will discuss the proposal made in Doha," the source said.
According to Iran's acting Deputy Oil Minister Masoud Hashemian Esfahani, Tehran calls for broad international cooperation to increase oil prices, and will try by different means to achieve this goal.
Since the drop in oil prices in the first half of January, officials from OPEC and non-OPEC countries have been considering holding a meeting to address the declining oil prices, which have caused significant financial problems for some states around the world.
