MOSCOW (Sputnik) Tehran is expecting to reach a deal with the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on reducing export tariffs this year, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said Wednesday.

"We hope that Iran will sign an agreement with EEU in 2016 on tariff reductions [for goods], which are exported to Russia from other EEU member countries and which are exported from these countries to and from Iran," Sanaei said at a press conference on Iran’s activities after the lifting of sanctions imposed by world powers over its nuclear program.

The Iranian ambassador added that there were enough conditions and prerequisites for expanding the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.

The EEU is an economic union of former Soviet republics, which comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

Iran's moves to boost its trade sector comes after the lifting of the international sanctions against the country on January 16, following the International Atomic Energy Agency's confirmation of Tehran’s compliance with the deal on the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.
