The US government will seek business contracts for companies as part of the massive expansion of Peru’s health care system over the next two years, US Deputy Commerce Secretary Bruce Andrews said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Peru will invest $2.6 billion over the next two years to build and improve a variety of infrastructure projects, including upgrading and equipping several hospitals and healthcare centers, new equipment, blood banks and telemedicine systems, the release explained.

"Working together, we can help Peru meet its healthcare needs while also generating economic growth, creating new jobs and increasing prosperity for people in both the United States and Peru," Andrews said in the release issued on Thursday.

"The Peruvian government's forward approach on… enhancing the country's healthcare system will yield opportunities for US suppliers of medical equipment and devices, US pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and US healthcare IT service providers," the release noted.

Andrews will visit Peru in March 2016, the Commerce Department added.
