BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – The EU politicians met Turnbull ahead of the G20 Summit in Turkey to discuss economic, environmental and security challenges.
"We agreed to commence work toward the launch of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement [FTA]. We believe that a FTA will support sustainable growth and investment, open up new commercial opportunities and promote innovation and employment in Australia and the EU," the joint statement said.
It added that an FTA would contribute to the liberalization of trade deregulation and increased investment.
The sides also discussed ongoing international crises, including those in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
On November 15-16, the Turkish city of Antalya is hosting the 10th G20 summit. A number of expert and ministerial meetings are scheduled to take place during the event.
