Russian energy company Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation on Tuesday after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the emir of Kuwait, Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

SOCHI (Sputnik) – In October, Gazprom board of directors head Viktor Zubkov said Kuwait was interested in liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries from Russia.

According to Zubkov, the company was ready to increase LNG supplies to Kuwait threefold, from 2.5 million to 7.5 million metric tons.

Kuwait is scheduled to complete construction of a new LNG import terminal by 2020.
