Russia's state-run corporation Rosatom is expected to build two 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units by 2022 in Jordan.

VOLGODONSK (Rostov Region) (Sputnik) — Moscow and Amman may sign a contract for the construction of Jordan's first nuclear power plant (NPP) within two years, the chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) said Wednesday.

Russia and Jordan signed an agreement laying the legal foundation for the construction of Jordan's first NPP in March.

"I hope we will sign the EPC [Engineering Procurement Construction] contract within two years," Khaled Toukan told reporters.

Russia won the tender for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Jordan in October 2013.

Russia's state-run corporation Rosatom is expected to build two 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units by 2022.

The first reactor is due to enter service in 2024, and the second in 2026.

The $10-billion project is expected to become the largest in the history of Russia-Jordan relations.
