Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak is going to meet with Maros Sefcovic, Vice President of the European Commission, to discuss future gas deliveries to Ukraine on September 11.

The meeting will take place in Vienna, where the two sides will negotiate how to keep Ukrainians warm throughout the upcoming winter.

Ukraine plans to ask the European Union to shell out money, so the broke Eastern European nation could buy gas from its neighbor on the north.

"Of course, we'll discuss it," Novak told journalists. However, the minister didn't give any further details.

Ukraine Comes Hat in Hand to Russia for Winter Gas Supply
Last month, it was reported Kiev has 13,9 billion cubic meters of gas in its underground storages and needs three billion more to make it through the winter. This would cost $750 million, which is equivalent to the price for gas transit for three months.

Although the current Ukrainian government hates pretty much everything about Russia — the language, culture, the government and even its people — when it comes to gas Ukraine suddenly doesn't seem to mind that it comes from Russia.
