A German-Spanish business summit, with high-level political backing, kicked off in the headquarters of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) on Tuesday in Berlin, according to the BDI's official website.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The German-Spanish Entrepreneurs meeting's agenda includes discussions on the effects of structural reforms in Spain, bilateral relations between the two countries and the economic challenges faced by Europe.

The business summit, which will be attended by representatives of political parties and the business community, opened with a conversation on the future of the Eurozone led by German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and Spanish Economy Minister Luis de Guindos.

Next on the agenda is a panel discussion on Europe's competitiveness, which will be followed by a joint statement at 11 a.m. (09:00 GMT) by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

BDI organized the summit in cooperation with the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA), the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations (CEOE).

BDI is an umbrella organization for German industry. It speaks on behalf of 36 industry sector associations and represents over 100,000 large, medium-sized and small enterprises with around eight million employees.
