Athens will not make its June debt repayment to the International Monetary Fund if there is no guarantee of a deal for a new aid package to the crisis-stricken country in the coming days, a spokesman for the ruling Syriza party said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Greece is expected to pay $330 million to the IMF by Friday.

"If there is no prospect of a deal by Friday or Monday, I don't know by when exactly, we will not pay," Nikos Filis told Mega television channel.

In May, the Greek interior minister said that Athens did not have money to make the June repayments.

Greece was particularly hard-hit by the aftereffects of the 2008 economic crisis, quickly going into a multibillion debt by accepting large loans offered by the IMF, the European Union and the European Central Bank.

On Tuesday, media reported that the country’s creditors have agreed on a draft deal to unlock a bailout package for the Greek government, pushing Greece for further extensive economic and social reforms.
