MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Washington will allocate another $1 billion to Ukraine if reforms in the country are successful, US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt said Monday.
“As Ukraine continues making concrete progress on its economic reform agenda… we will be willing working with the US Congress to consider providing up to an additional $1 billion loan guarantee in late 2015.”
The Ukrainian Finance Ministry said on Monday that the United States would sign a loan guarantee for $1 billion with Ukraine later in the day. Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko will sign the agreement on behalf of Ukraine, while the US government will be represented by Pyatt.
In March, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) endorsed a four-year financial assistance package for Ukraine amounting to $17.5 billion to stabilize the economic situation in the country in exchange for Kiev's commitment to implement deep political, social and financial reforms.
Ukraine has also been promised $1.9 billion from the European Union.
