"Of course, we feel positive about US businessmen trading and investing here if US laws permit, but that does not imply any preferential treatment," Malmierca said in an interview with Cuba's state-run Granma newspaper.

US President Barack Obama pledged last December to mend ties with Havana, ease travel and trade restrictions on the island nation and reopen a US embassy there.

In January, the US Treasury and Commerce Department scaled down sanctions related to travel, remittances, trade and banking, while keeping the Cuba trade embargo in effect.
