Kiev's Prepaid Gas to Run Out Early on March 6 - Gazprom
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Ukraine's Naftogaz has transferred $15 million to Russia's gas giant Gazprom for the delivery of 45.6 million cubic meters of gas, or enough to last five days, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said Thursday.

"Naftogaz transferred $15 million as a prepayment for March deliveries. These funds reached Gazprom's accounts today. This amount will cover 45.6 million cubic meters of gas, which will last about five days in accordance with the current order of delivery volumes by Naftogaz," Kupriyanov told journalists.

Naftogaz made a $15-million prepayment for Russian gas in late February. Gazprom said that the prepaid volume would last Ukraine until March 6.

Gazprom cut gas deliveries to Ukraine last summer, citing Kiev's immense debt of over $5 billion at the time. Gas deliveries were renewed in October, when the sides agreed Ukraine would pay in advance. Under the deal, Kiev also enjoyed a discounted gas price during the winter months. The agreement expires in April.

On Monday, Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission held talks in Brussels on future gas deliveries to Ukraine.

After the meeting, Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that Moscow and Kiev would continue discussing terms for summer gas supplies in late March.
