Kiev Makes No Progress in Settling Gas Debt to Russia – Russian Minister
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is yet to decide on whether to suspend gas sales to Ukraine, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Wednesday, commenting on reports about the possible shutdown of deliveries.

Novak said that no decision on the matter has been made as yet.

Alexei Miller, the CEO of Russian energy giant Gazprom, said Tuesday that as Kiev has failed to make its advance payments for Russian gas on time, the company may stop deliveries within two days.

Miller added that there is only 219 million cubic meters of gas paid for, pointing out that Ukraine's tardiness in making prepayment for gas supplies could threaten the transit of Russian gas to consumers in Europe.

The issue of gas supplies is among the most acute in Russian-Ukrainian relations.

In June 2014, Gazprom ceased its gas deliveries to Ukraine because of Kiev's debt, standing at over $5 billion at the time. Deliveries resumed in December after Ukrainian authorities paid off $3.1 billion of its debt and agreed to making advance payments for future deliveries.
