MOSCOW October 22 (RIA Novosti) - US cyber security company Alert Logic today in Cardiff officially opened their new European HQ, a Security Operations Center, bringing to reality the firm’s plans for expansion into Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Company CEO Gray Hall said at the event: “The opening of our new European SOC, coupled with our recently launched UK datacenter, enables us to be closer to our growing number of European customers and deliver them continuous protection and deep security and compliance insights, regardless of where their IT resides, be it in the cloud, on-premises or in a hybrid environment.”

The Houston, Texas based company has also launched a UK data center in Newport, which will employ five people. The new HQ is to create almost 130 jobs, and the company hopes to take on more staff in the next three years.

The company was encouraged to choose Wales by several factors, including a £1.5m finance package from the Welsh government. The city’s close proximity to London also played a role, as well as the region’s highly skilled workforce and several universities with expertise in the field of cyber security.

Announcing the investment in April, Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “South Wales has a high concentration of active and innovative companies and university expertise in the Trust and Security sector. The region has a growing recognition as one of the primary locations in the UK for the research, development and commercialization of security products and services.  This major inward investment project will significantly enhance our reputation and importantly offer quality, well paid jobs.”

The firm follows Canadian IT services company CGI in coming to South Wales, which has recently announced plans to expand its existing workforce in the area to from 900 to 1,500. CGI likewise received significant funding from the Welsh government, to the sum of £3.2 million.

The UK is making concerted efforts to push the region as a hub for the ICT sector and Trust and Security sub-sector, offering companies the highest levels of financial support and grants in the UK.
